Bye Bye Blogging.

December 2, 2009 - Leave a Response

Due to my allnighter last night, I decided not to go to the class today.  However I still have more to do and some questions so I will be there on Thursday.  However, I was looking at some blogs to decide if I wanted any of them in my remix and I noticed that I had 29 written blogs so far.  So I decided to write my FINAL blog.  After this, I will have exactly 30 blogs.  I can not tell you how happy that makes me.  Don’t get me wrong, I actually really enjoyed this class, but blogging, I did not.   When I think about it, thirty doesn’t actually seem like such a high number, but it really was.  I am sort of shocked I actually managed to keep up and finish them all. But here I am, officially blog free!

synthesis revision = hard

December 1, 2009 - Leave a Response

I have to admit I thought writing my synthesis revision for my portfolio would be much easier than it was.  I mean I had already done the hard part by writing both the two papers awhile ago and because they were both personal reflections I thought this task would be somewhat of a simple one.  However, I found it difficult to combine the two papers and merge the two topics of student philosophy and my reasons for wanting to teach into one.  I liked my two papers and did not want to completely rewrite them so I tried to use as many parts from each that I could.  I had to of course add things as well as take things out enable for it to go together smoothly.  But now that I am finally done, I am happy with it.

All-nighter remix confusion

December 1, 2009 - Leave a Response

I am currently pulling an all nighter enable to get a mass amount of homework/studying done, and so far I believe I’ve made some great progress.  I’ve worked on my portfolio for a many hours now and am excited to have a large chunk of it completed.  However, I still have to come to class at least tomorrow (or I guess today seeing what time it is) so that I can ask a few questions and have the quiet time to continue working.  When working on my remix, I put in my project one and two combined as one, and also my project two because I feel like it was a better one for me, however I am not sure if I am supposed to put project one in there separate as well even if I don’t like it as much.  I am also trying to go through my blogs to see if I would like any of those to be in my remix but I’m not sure because I wasn’t the biggest fan of blogging, therefore I am not so sure I would consider any of them my best work.  Lastly, project four was all presentations with a group so I am not sure how to represent that in my portfolio.  I guess this leaves me with some things to thing about in the many hours I have until my night is over as well as some questions to ask for tomorrow.

I am in trouble.

November 29, 2009 - Leave a Response

I am in big trouble.  Fortunately, I had a lot of fun with my family and friends over Thanksgiving break.  Unfortunately, I did not stick to my well thought out and planned daily homework schedule.  Big shocker there.  This schedule includes my written plan for my portfolio.  I am no where near where I wanted to be.  This means I will most likely be coming in during our class time to get some work done because apparently I cannot trust myself to do it on my own time.  Between this portfolio, and the mass amounts of work and studying I have to do for my other classes, I am going to be very busy.  It looks the the library will be the place to find me this next week ..

Portfolio update

November 23, 2009 - Leave a Response

Unfortunately, I am already behind according to the plan I had made for myself for my portfolio.  Although I basically knew this would happen when I made it, I hoped it wouldn’t.  By the start of the break I wanted to have the easier things done, and the by the end of the first weekend I was hoping to have my two first projects combined at least as a rough draft or plan.  However, it is now the end of the first weekend and I haven’t done a thing! I was hoping to be able to have everything finished by the end of break because I have so much to do/study for during the last week before finals, as well as a lot of other things to complete during break, but now that doesn’t look like it will be happening.  If I do not get as much done as I need to, then I will definitely be coming in during class time next week even though we are not required to.  The quiet time without distractions will help me get a lot done, including blogging, because I’m behind on that as well!

Last class!

November 23, 2009 - Leave a Response

Thursday was our last class in which it was required for all of us to attend.  Next week will be used as work time for our portfolio and we do not have to go.  We spent the time presenting the final group projects.  I was actually pretty impressed with all the groups and their presentations.  Each one was different and they all tried to make them interesting and interactive which was great.  After the presentations we filled out a required survey for the class and that was it.  I have to admit I am sort of sad to see this class end.  I really enjoyed it.  Because English is my favorite subject, I didn’t mind doing most of the work at all, and I really had a good time in the classroom as well.  I made a few friends, and openness and lack of lecturing made it really enjoyable.  It was probably my favorite class of the semester.

Project Four

November 23, 2009 - Leave a Response

We are finally done with project four, which was the last project of the class.  I have to admit this one was not my favorite.  By the end of the project I was starting to feel that my group (myself included) was a little bit tired of group work and trying to make everyone happy with what we were doing.  Because it was our second project together (and my group also knows each other from other classes) we were not shy to disagree, argue, or get aggravated, which made it a little more difficult and not so easy.  However, it was also more comfortable and very fun at times.  I think what made this project the hardest was my lack of understanding from the beginning.  For some reason I was never really completely sure what was expected or when the due dates were for each part.  It was also the most challenging project thus far because we had to work collaboratively, teach a lesson from a book that I don’t believe many people enjoyed/understood, and then teach another lesson about a topic of our choice.  It was the toughest yet, however I probably learned the most, especially because I want to teach one day.

mannnn portfollio

November 12, 2009 - One Response

Last class we were introduced to the porfollio due on December 1st.  I have to admit I was sort of shocked at how much work is going to have to be put into this.  Of all my classes I was looking forward to not having to worry so much about a final in this class, but now I do!  First we need a writen plan, and then a synthesis revision of project one and project two combined into one paper.  Then we need a “remix” of all our best work from this class.  Which really confuses me because we really only have two papers (which will already be combined to make one paper in our portfollio) since the last two projects were presented group projects.  I know we can also include blog posts .. but to be honest, I don’t think I would consider any of my blog posts to be my best work, considering I strongly dislike this thing.  But I suppose I could go back and rewrite some of them that have potential.  Then we need a Meta-analysis, which is writing about our writing and the course in general.  We also need to include all of our supporting material which could be peer reviews, workshops, or anything else that helped us with our blogs or projects.  Then we need our grade memo.  This is a one pages single spaced document explaining what grade we think we deserve in this class.  This is the only thing we print out and turn in for our portfollio other than the portfolio sheet we have to sign and turn in from our book.  Lastly is the survey, which we can turn in after our portfollio is due.  This should be either e-mailed to him or put on our original blog.  All of these things should be put together electronically not printed out.  I am pretty sure I will be doing it in a new blog becuase I am already familiar with blogging, and it seems easy enough to put each seperate component on a new tab.  This will keep me organized which is very important to me.

November 6, 2009 - Leave a Response

Today in class we got together to see what everyone had done and where to go from here.  Most of us had our small story about our famous people and were trying to figure out how to write it in first person and chose a crossroad for their lives.  We decided we are all going to type our stories individually and print out five copies each.  On the day we teach our lesson, we will have the class split into five groups and read each story.  They will then try to figure out who each person is and whether or not they escaped from the city with their success or stayed and tried to help out and how.  After the groups are done, we will tell them who each person is and what they have done to help reform the city.  Next we will have a powerpoint going into greater detail of all the research we have done so far.  We will be putting our stories of influential people in are folders as well as our research for our powerpoint by this monday.

the plans

November 4, 2009 - Leave a Response

I originally put up a plan for our group four project to use scrap blog on the topic of escaping the inner city or reform.  Then we decided to change out topic to gender and it’s issues in the classroom and doing a powerpoint with voice over.  However, after class today, we realized the original topic would work better for us.  E very time we meet (inside and outside of class) we change our plans!  But now I think we are set.  Each one of us is going to take an influential person who is well known to research.  We will give a small background story and then talk about how they have decided to give back to the city and help reform it.  My person is Oprah Winfrey.  We also plan to use a clip from Coach Carter the movie about a moment where one of the young men decides to change his ways and escape the lifestyle of the city to make a difference.  We still plan to do the powerpoint for now!
